I was thrilled to serve on the committee and work on independent research with journalist Tania Ganguli, who I met whille she completed her master's degree at the University of Minnesota. It's taken some time, but one of the articles she helped me with was recently published in the International Journal of Communication. You can check out the open access link here. The reserch investivates the effects of public demonstrations supporting Black civil rights, including the Black Lives Matter movement and protests led by celebrity athletes. Understanding what shapes public opinion on these protests is crucial for grasping the broader social and political climate. Our co-authored study, which includes Dr. Rachel Mourao of the University of Miami, sheds light on how different types of news media consumption influence support for these protests.

This research, based on a survey of over 1,000 U.S. adults, explores the relationship between media habits, political attitudes, and support for Black civil rights protests. The findings reveal important patterns about how partisan news and sports-related demonstrations affect public opinion.
